Position Title: Operations Manager

Reports To: Regional Director

Location: Rochester, NY (ROC)

Operation Size: 35 + employees, 9+ departures daily

Salary: $55-$60K Annually


Position Purpose:


Lead and direct all day-to-day operational activities at the Rochester, NY station. Responsibilities include but are not limited to ramp, customer service, flight and cargo operations for Southwest Airlines, Air Canada, Delta Airlines and American Airlines at the Rochester International Airport. Safety, Security, Training and Compliance are the cornerstones of this operation and are critical requirements to achieving operational excellence. It is absolutely imperative that the Operations Manager be the leader in developing teamwork and a working relationships with Southwest Airlines, Air Canada, Delta Airlines and American Airlines. The Operations Manager will be required to deliver against operational and financial performance goals and execute in accordance with strict airline, government and airport regulations.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Work with the local Regional Director and airline customers/stakeholders to maximize operational performance in areas of on-time performance, staffing levels, training, compliance and safety
  • Accountable for reliability, customer service delivery, fostering positive employee relations, good employee morale, cost management, and regulatory compliance
  • Interacts with airport authorities, government agencies, airline customers and external organizations
  • Delivers against operational and financial goals and objectives
  • Plans and executes resource allocation for staffing and ground equipment
  • Manage scheduling of employees and workgroup assignments
  • Internal controls – conducts periodic internal controls audits
  • Review facilities, vehicles, and operations for compliance and accident prevention deficiencies
  • Review injury reports and property damage reports to determine causes and prevent recurrences
  • Participate in all local, regulatory and business partner audits that are conducted and report out any findings or concerns
  • Conduct initial and recurrent training programs as needed including the DOT program and GSC
  • Plan, schedule and review all internal audits to encompass the broad scope of the operation and ensure compliance and safety on all shifts
  • Drives performance and productivity
  • Manage local employee relations in collaboration with the HR Team
  • Support the recruitment process and employee development in collaboration with the HR Team.
  • Support HR policy, benefit and compensation programs



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management or related field
  • 3 – 5 years of airline/aviation experience
  • Strong working knowledge of airline operations
  • Proven business acumen, technical learning/innovation management and a drive for results
  • Ability to understand financial implications (cost benefit) in operational decisions
  • Creative and innovative to improve delivery of service excellence
  • Superior problem-solving, conflict management and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated communication, leadership and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop effective relationships at all levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) 

In addition to these qualifications, you must also;

  • Pass a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 10-year background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Pass a Department of Homeland Security/Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security assessment
  • Must have a recommendation from your direct supervisor and/or manager (internal candidates only)
